Wind turbines, solar farms, energy storage, and other assets frequently run on different SCADA platforms, historian solutions, or bespoke IT applications, making it difficult to collect, compare, and act on data consistently. The challenge lies not in the diversity itself, but in bringing scattered data together, applying standardized processes across vendor-specific implementations, and creating one coherent operational picture.
A couple of years ago, we at Minds and Co. powered by Antire delivered a unified SCADA replacement solution for a multi-OEM, multi-asset operator. The goal was to unify and harmonize data across all assets without disrupting operations and while supporting future growth. By standardizing data collection, storage, and accessibility, we created a foundation not only for current operational needs but also for advanced analytics, AI, and future innovations. Today, we reflect on how the solution has performed and what lessons it holds for the years ahead.
From the first line of code to ongoing maintenance, we took a full life-cycle approach. We provided dedicated project teams that worked side by side with the customer’s development and operations teams, ensuring seamless collaboration and alignment with our customer’s needs. Continuous delivery with a tight feedback loop in an OT context was central to our approach. This reduced project risk, allowed new features to be tested quickly, and ensured the system evolved in step with operational realities. Together, these practices created a foundation for reliable performance, continuous improvement, and scalable, future-ready operations.
“From early in the project we got into continuous delivery cycle where each week the development team would deliver us a new tangible feature to test and give feedback on. This allowed technicians and business stakeholders to interact with new features each week. This iterative approach helped derisking the project and making sure we are building the right system.” - SCADA Platform Manager
Our team remains responsible for support, monitoring, and continuous improvement, combining deep OT expertise with agile delivery to manage complex, multibrand environments efficiently while laying the groundwork for future innovations.
“The highlight for me of the system support and maintenance was the efficiency of it. Throughout most of the operations, we can have only 1–2 developers providing technical support, which is remarkable considering the scope of the system, collecting data and issuing commands to more than a thousand turbines of diverse types.” - SCADA Platform Manager
A key strength of the solution lies in its ability to harmonize multibrand data. By standardizing tag names, scaling units, and providing consistent formats, operators gain a single source of truth across diverse assets. Using open, vendor-neutral protocols, the system architecture enables seamless integration of this data with both in-house and third-party applications, supporting evolving business processes and operational requirements.
The system has proven its flexibility and resilience. Continuous DevOps delivery allowed new assets and features to be integrated without disruption, while the vendor-neutral architecture ensured compatibility across multiple OEMs, SCADA platforms, and data environments.
From our perspective, the project demonstrates how a thoughtful, end-to-end approach can deliver real value: operators can now make informed decisions faster, optimize performance across fleets, and adapt to changing portfolios and market demands. The harmonized, high-quality data foundation also positions the system to support advanced analytics, AI applications, and other future innovations, proving that investment in strong OT expertise today creates opportunities for intelligent, autonomous operations tomorrow.
The unified SCADA replacement solution has created a robust foundation for intelligent operations across diverse renewable assets. By harmonizing and enriching operational data, operators can make faster, data-driven decisions and continuously optimize asset performance.
Beyond day-to-day efficiency, the system unlocks advanced capabilities such as predictive maintenance, anomaly detection, performance optimization, and automated operational workflows. Its open and vendor-neutral design ensures that future tools, analytics, and AI systems can build upon it without dependency on specific platforms or technologies.
This project demonstrates how a full life-cycle collaboration, deep OT expertise, and a flexible, future-ready architecture can deliver lasting value. By unifying multibrand data and empowering teams with actionable insights, the solution continues to ensure operational resilience and the ability to embrace future technologies.
The multibrand capability of a system allows technicians and support staff to work with different system types through one standardized interface. Without such a unified multibrand setup, operations would need to rely on multiple separate systems for operation and maintenance tasks. A multibrand solution reduces this complexity by consolidating everything into a single standard platform.”
