Prepare for the journey from GenAI to Applied AI and Tailored AI—4 lessons learned

AI isn’t just a trend—it’s a transformative force set to reshape all industries. Some companies are already reaping the rewards; it’s not too late for others to join. At Antire, we believe that understanding AI’s evolving role and how it can drive growth is crucial for companies aiming to stay competitive. This blog post shares some key lessons from integrating AI for our customers.

Antire is a leading partner delivering Artificial Intelligence (AI), data analytics, and other technologies, giving our customers business value. At Antire, we think AI is the most significant disruptive technology we’ve seen since the dawn of the internet. And, talking about the Internet and disruption, Generative AI (GenAI for short) is about to disrupt Google Search and other search engines that disrupted the early days of the Internet.

AI: The ultimate disruptor

Unlike previous innovations, AI’s impact is more profound, reaching into virtually every industry. We believe the AI revolution will be bigger than the Internet. According to OpenAI, AI’s capabilities are evolving at a pace faster than Moore’s Law: “We’re releasing an analysis showing that since 2012, the amount of compute used in the largest AI training runs has been increasing exponentially with a 3.4-month doubling time. By comparison, Moore’s Law had a 2-year doubling period.”

Disruption occurs when combining cross-domain knowledge and technology to create new and better solutions, and AI is no different or even more so. Big Bang disruptions emerge when technological advancements allow new products or services to simultaneously offer superior performance and lower costs, making them instantly attractive to the entire market. Early adopters are establishing market dominance by driving efficiency and innovation on an unprecedented scale. The reach of disruptive technology is moving towards the whole market and all industries. Disruption leads to dominant market players who are the first movers.

Winners take all

A nice thing about AI technology is that it is accessible to many; therefore, there is room for more companies to become users of AI and winners in the AI revolution. Thus, winners take all instead of the winner takes all. However, we may end up with a clear winner for the AI model itself!

As Mikko Hyppönen stated at the Oslo Business Forum in September 2024: “The AI revolution will be a bigger revolution than the Internet. You are not late. This revolution hasn’t happened yet. It has barely started. We tend to overestimate the speed of these revolutions and underestimate their size. You have plenty of time to join this revolution, but you must join it.”

How AI can create business value

To create business value, AI must interact with the world. Today, “the world” means the digital world, but we see more and more AI solutions that interact with the physical world, i.e., cameras, drones, and, of course, robots.

When working with AI projects with our customers, we always start with strategic goals. This can be goals like:

  • Decrease operations team size by 15-30%.
  • Decrease production costs by 20%.
  • Increase customer retention by 20%.

We also distinguish between Applied AI and Tailored AI. Applied AI is the standard out-of-the-box GenAI model, with built-in AI functionality on large system platforms like Microsoft Copilot or Oracle AI tools, natural language AI, automation, and more. Tailored AI utilizes AI and data tailored to the customer's specific business needs and/or industry. Tailored AI includes:

  • Train new and further train existing models
  • Use Machine Learning and Deep Learning
  • Custom AI functionality

Tailored AI is combined with applied AI, increasing the scope of the AI project.

Four key AI lessons learned

We have helped our customers with several AI projects in the last few years. We have made some mistakes along the way and celebrated some successes. Here are our four key lessons learned:

  1. Begin with a clear objective: Define what you want to achieve, whether it’s reducing operational costs, increasing customer retention, or gaining other outcomes.
  2. Have a modern data platform: Your AI engine will halt without a modern and digitalized IT infrastructure. Establish a modern and optimal data platform for your purpose.
  3. Prepare for Change Management: As AI transforms work and workflows, organizations need robust change management to support adoption.
  4. Keep it short: Generally, avoid AI projects that take more than a couple of months. Three months is too long time.

With these steps in mind, it’s time to take action, secure your place in the AI revolution, and position your organization for a future where AI-driven businesses set the pace.

At Antire, we don’t just provide AI solutions – we’re committed to helping our customers navigate this complex transformation. With a deep understanding of best-of-breed technologies, our team sees the whole picture, helping you harness the full potential of AI to meet your strategic goals. From reducing costs to enhancing customer experiences, we guide you at every step of your AI journey.
